Hefeweizen, abv 5.4%
Appearance: Brown-red color. Large head (3-4 fingers) the subsided to one finger. Good retention. Very creamy head the whole way down. A few floaties.
Smell: High banana notes with a nice bubblegum smell. Cloves still lingering. Some yeasty smell hanging around but mostly overtaken by a toasty brown bread smell. Light caramel and malt.
Taste: Although ripe banana taste is still here, as on the notes, it is mellower. The maltiness steps forward. Compared to the regular hefe, its just so well blended given the bigger malt aspect. Spicier finish. A little bit of raisin. Nutty in the middle.
Mouthfeel: Nice coating feeling. Very pillowy and sticks around. Nice and creamy.
Overall: Amazing beer. Having just tasted the hefe, I cant help but compare them. The hefe is just a better beer all around. Although the maltiness seems to blend to flavor of the banana it misses something by doing that. It is obviously a denser more rich beer, but every aspect of the hefe seem to out-do the drinking experience. By no means in this a bad beer, its actually an amazing beer, but its hefe brethren is just that much better.
